Causes
- Uneven paint application.
- Failure to properly prime a porous surface, or surface with varying degrees of porosity.
- Poor application resulting in lapping (see Lapping).
- Use of low-quality paint.
- Application under drying conditions that promote fast dry, such as hot and low humidity level conditions.
Solutions
- New substrates should be primed/sealed before applying the topcoat to ensure a uniform surface.
- Applying an additional coat will often even out sheen irregularities.
- Use proper spray technique.
- When rolling paint on, use a top quality roller cover.
