Causes
- Use of low-quality semi-gloss or gloss paints.

Solutions
- Use high-quality latex paints that are formulated to resist stains and prevent them from penetrating the painted surface, allowing for easy removal.
- Priming new surfaces provides maximum sheen and film thickness of a premium top coat, providing very good stain removability.
- Consider using higher sheen paints for high-traffic areas.
